STEEP
STEEP is an animation introducing a ritual to your daily life through the use of tea and meditation.
Tea is the second most consumed beverage in the world but in the United States tea falls to 6th place following bottled water, carbonated soft drinks, coffee, beer, and milk. It all started in 1773 when John Adams wrote, “Tea must be universally renounced,” after the events of the Boston Tea Party. Drinking tea was viewed as a betrayal and in its place drinking coffee was associated with the revolution. In this day and age, Americans have lost their connection with the tea ceremony.
Eastern cultures have been combining tea and meditation in the form of ceremonies for centuries to create a relaxed atmosphere where one can connect to nature through the drinking of tea and silent contemplation. The solution was to take inspiration from the origin of tea drinking and apply it to the modern American lifestyle. With today’s “busyness” mentality the intention was to invite people to make time in their day to slow down. Tea can be enjoyed by everyone; this is not an exclusive experience. This animation was produced to inspire and encourage those who feel like they don’t know enough about the subject to participate.
